We might be just a small label collective split between the United States and Italy, and though our platform might have limited resonance we firmly believe in justice and equality, and we find it necessary to fight racism and discrimination. We are aware of being outsiders in a privileged condition, hence like anyone in our same position we should first learn to listen who experiences discrimination, then we should support who fights every day for their culture and existence. The recent absurd killing of George Floyd (the last in a long series) and the following protests reminded us once again that the way ahead is still long and difficult. We would like to send our message of unity and support through music by joining other bands and labels on Bandcamp. On Friday, June 5, Bandcamp will leave their 15% to artists and labels, while on June 19, or “Juneteenth”, the day when the Emancipation Proclamation is celebrated, the platform will donate their income to the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). On both these days WWNBB – We Were Never Being Boring Collective will donate 100% of any purchase from our Bandcamp pages to the NAACP. It might not be a lot, but it’s our little contribution to say that Black Lives Matter is not just an hashtag and requires concrete action from each one of us.
