Frida & Ale – I don’t like to see others having fun

Once upon a time there was a Swedish band called Rough Bunnies, formed by two gals who played indie-pop as if it were punk: exceeding passion and a bit of sauciness. One half of the band was Frida Vermina, who kept playing music even after the end of the “bunnies”.
On the southern side of Europe, on the Italian hills, Ale has never stopped loving Frida’s music – and now, with his help, Frida’s music has finally become an album.
After sharing the stage a number of times with each other’s band throughout the years, Frida & Ale have seen each other whenever there was a chance (mostly depending on low-cost flights). Neither of the two speaks the other’s language, but nonetheless, with emails and Skype-calls between the Brescian hills and the streets of Malmö, their debut “I Don’t Like to See Others Having Fun” can finally see the light.
This is an indie-pop album painted with water-colors and seeking simplicity thorugh its’ acoustic tones (think about a bitterer Lucksmiths reincarnation meeting a more disciplined version of the Moldy Peaches); ideally these songs are for all the connoisseurs of meaningless self-desctructive love, and for those who love nights of endless dreams.
“I Don’t Like To See Others Having Fun” was recorded in Brescia (Italy), at Red Carpet Studio, and was mastered by Lorenzo Caperchi. Many of the WWNBB’s family participated in one way or another: Fabio Benni, Ombretta Ghidini, Alessandro Stefana, Nicola Donà, Simone Gelmini, Michele Marelli, Samuele Palazzi and Daniela Savoldi played guitars, basses, drums, slide-guitars, keyboards, cellos, glockenspiels, and even recorded some vocals.
It might be true that Frida & Ale “don’t like to see others having fun”, but for sure they like to make them have fun!.

The Ian Fays – The Most Spectacular Party

Ten years ago today The Ian Fays performed on a stage for the first time. Today we are thrilled to announce that the twin-fronted/San Francisco-based band celebrates this anniversary with a new album called The Most Spectacular Party.  Eleven songs on which the sisters Elizabeth and Sara have been working for the past 3 years. With The Most Spectacular Party, the fragile and seductive twee vibe of The Ian Fays finds a new character: the low-fi and playful electronic sound of the beginnings, the one that went by the motto “broken casios, broken hearts”, becomes now an acoustic and more mature folk-pop that no longer fears to explore the darker and deeper sides. The collaboration with Kendra Lynn as a producer and engineer greatly influenced the shaping-up of the album during and after the recording sessions at Jackpot! recording studio in Portland, Oregon. While in studio, the songs were enriched with new arrangements, including slide guitar, percussion, trumpets and sitar. But the main focus, the core of the songs, were then and always are those persuasive voices, offered to the listener as a sincere,  spontaneous and open feeling. Voices singing sad words but at the same time full of ardor, as if they were written on the fogged windows during a rainy day. The Most Spectacular Party is available digitally, on CD and on a beautiful transparent bottle-green 12″ vinyl packed in a colorful gate-fold, all artistically arranged by Margot Pandone.

Love the Unicorn – Sports

love the unicorn

love the unicorn

I titoli in scaletta suonano già come una dichiarazione d’intenti: Young, Girlfriend, Never/ending Summer…

Sports, the new EP of the Rome-based Love The Unicorn, opens with the sound of the sea.. While the sound that closes it, farther and suspended, is that of a road. In the reverbs of the guitars, in the light-stretched melodies, in the pure and serene air you breathe between songs, the setting for this album is the desire to escape…somewhere distant. The song’s titles give some hints to begin with: Young, Girlfriend, Never / ending Summer … Love The Unicorn themselves chose with the word “sport” (from the Latin word indicating to exit from the walls of the city to engage in competitive activities) the real idea behind their release: “Sports is a soundtrack to youth, to hangin’ out, going out. ” Spring’s sweetness that recalls the early Phoenix, a mix of guitars and synths à la Two Door Cinema Club, indie-pop and softness, but at the same time fast-paced beats. If the race is that to the new season, full of sunshine and promises, with this EP Love The Unicorn is already showing-off during the training.
